Donald Trump and Xenophobic Movements in Europe

It seems to be a time for demagogues, Donald Trump in USA, Marine Le Pen  in France, Geert  Wilders in the Netherlands and many more. In Germany right wing extremists throw firebombs in inhabited refugee homes. Ted Cruz brandishes the endorsement of a minister, who says Hitler was a “ hunter“ sent after the Jews by God.

I was deeply touched reading the word’s of the 85 years old Holocaust survivor Irene Weiss, who is today living in the US.

“I am scared. I don’t like the trend. I don’t like how many people are applauding when they hear these demagogues. It can turn.“

And the 94 old Holocaust survivor Margit Meissner said about the US:

“It is not Weimar, but if could become Weimar Germany, if we have Mr.Trump here and people keep believing what he says.  …  I think one has speak up. And that’s the lesson from the Holocaust: Do not be a bystander.“

Demagogues like Donald Trump and others occurring at the moment have one thing in common with Nazis. They offer simple solutions for complicated problems, and they offer a scapegoat for everything that is bad, a group that differs  from the majority of people by race or faith. This can be Jews, black people, Latinos, Muslims. Main thing there is an unpopular minority, against whom inciting people is easy. We know from history what can be the results of such demagogy.

Therefore don’t be a bystander.
